Chiropractic Care

We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Sunil Pullukat has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health or wellness.

Corrective Exercises

At Chicago Sport and Wellness, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Lifestyle Advice

Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.

Nutritional Counseling

What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices. Nutritional counseling by our experienced chiropractic health professionals can assist a patient on their return to optimal health. Do you know which supplements and vitamins are good for you? Do you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? At our Highland Park and Downtown Chicago Gold Coast Area chiropractic clinic, we can provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural  treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery. Some investigative studies have even indicated that a single session of massage may help boost your immune system!

Spinal & Postural Screenings

There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Your spinal health is no exception. Posture and spinal screenings by a trained and experienced chiropractor such as Dr. Sunil Pullukat can help reveal important health information, unlocking the door to improved health and well-being. In order to help the Highland Park and Downtown Chicago Gold Coast Area community, we provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Contact us today at (773) 852-8423 to arrange a screening at your event or workplace.

Active Release Technique

Active Release Techniques is a recently developed method for addressing soft tissue adhesions and dysfunctions. ART provides a way to diagnose and treat the underlying causes of cumulative trauma disorders that result in symptoms of numbness, tingling, burning and aching. ART is a type of manual hands-on therapy that corrects muscular and soft tissue problems caused by adhesion formation as a result of injury, overuse or cumulative trauma.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has been around for over 5,000 years. It has the ability to stimulate the body’s natural healing properties. During an acupuncture treatment, very fine and one time use disposable sterile needles are inserted into specific points on the body for about 20-30 minutes. One may occasionally feel a slight pinch and/or pressure upon needle insertion, but the sensation diminishes very quickly and one should feel a deep relaxation during treatment.Research shows acupuncture stimulates the brain to release endorphins, other neurotransmitters, and chemicals into the bloodstream. These allow an analgesic effect and are very helpful in treating pain, inflammation, and other physical and psychological problems. Acupuncture is very safe and does not have any undesirable side effects.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is the use of acupuncture needles in physical therapy to relive muscular pain and myofascial disorders. Dry needling for the treatment of myofascial (muscular) pain, tendonitis, and trigger points is similar to traditional acupuncture. However, dry needling targets the trigger points, which is the direct and palpable source of patient pain, rather than the traditional "meridians", accessed via acupuncture.

Dry needling helps to accelerate healing by allowing for increased circulation to the injured area, improved oxygen delivery, and stimulation of the neural pathways that can block pain messages as they travel from your central nervous system to your muscles. When combined with the appropriate strengthening or stabilization exercises and biomechanical assessment, dry needling can help to alleviate both chronic and muscular disorders.

Functional Rehabilitation

Functional rehabilitation has been described as an extension of the traditional elements of injury management with the purpose to return the patient to highly complex movement patterns related to activities of daily living (ADLs), sport and recreation activities (SRA) and demands of employment (DE). While managing pain and inflammation and restoring flexibility and strength in the local area of injury or insult is important in the rehabilitation process, functional rehabilitation recognizes that after injury adaptations occur in the movement system. These adaptations may exist long after symptomatic recovery from injury resulting in functional deficits that may be missed on a standard physical assessment.

Our approach is to assess alignment and balance and fundamental movements in order to identify the presence of alterations in the function of the movement system. Individualized strategies are then developed for reactivating the core stability system and restoring functional mobility and stability throughout the body.

Selective Functional Movement Screen

Pain, muscle imbalances and poor flexibility can all cause changes in the way we move. Over time, these changes in movement may lead to decreased range of motion in joints, muscle length changes, and declines in strength. Abnormal movement also increases the risk of injury.

The purpose of a Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is to identify abnormal movement patterns by analyzing posture, strength, flexibility and balance, and how they work together (movement). Based on the findings of the Selective Functional Movement Assessment, providers can recommend treatments that target abnormal movement patterns. These treatments can reduce pain, enhance athletic performance and prevent injuries.

Kinesiology Tape

Kinesio Tape itself is a breathable, elastic, cotton tape used to facilitate the natural healing process without restricting movement. It was created by a Japanese chiropractor and gained world-wide attention during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when several athletes were viewed wearing the bright pink, blue and black tape during their competitions. According to the Kinesio Taping website: ‘The tape is applied along muscles, ligaments and tendons to provide a lightweight, strong, external support that helps prevent injury and speed recovery.’ Kinesio Tape works differently for different injuries.

Depending on how it is applied, Kinesio Tape supports, enables or restricts soft tissue and its movement. By stretching and recoiling like a rubber band, Kinesio Tape augments tissue function and distributes loads away from inflamed or damaged muscles and tendons, thereby protecting tissues from further injury.’ Kinesio Taping helps speed recovery by microscopically ‘lifting the skin’. This lifting action creates small pockets of space that allow drainage to occur, reducing inflammation and promoting healing.
